How to Buy a Derminator 2: Real Cost, Ordering and Risks

Delivered to the US, a Derminator 2 costs at least $211.51 on its own, or at least $252.27 with a year’s supply of 13 cartridges. You buy it from its maker, OwnDoc, at owndoc.shop, and you pay DHL’s import charges separately when the parcel arrives. The price is the easy part. The risks are a cancelled order if OwnDoc decides your address is a forwarder, transit of two weeks or more, no returns, and the chance of being refused future orders. That last one matters most, because only OwnDoc’s cartridges fit the machine.

What a Derminator 2 really costs delivered

These figures come from owndoc.shop’s own US checkout (USD, DHL Express), with nothing ordered, checked October 6, 2026. The checkout calls its import figure a minimum, so every delivered total is “at least”.

Order Items Shipping DHL on arrival (at least) Delivered (at least)
Device alone (US plug) $149.00 $29.30 $33.21 = $14.90 import tax + $17.00 collection fee + $1.31 regulatory charge $211.51
Device + 13 × 12-needle cartridges $186.05 $29.30 $36.92 = $18.61 + $17.00 + $1.31 $252.27
13 × 12-needle cartridges only $37.05 $29.30 $22.02 = $3.71 + $17.00 + $1.31 $88.37

The arithmetic, row by row: $149.00 + $29.30 + $33.21 = $211.51. Then $186.05 (that is, $149.00 + 13 × $2.85) + $29.30 + $36.92 = $252.27. And $37.05 + $29.30 + $22.02 = $88.37, which works out to $88.37 ÷ 13 = $6.80 per cartridge delivered, against a list price of $2.85.

The checkout spells out who gets paid what: “The shipping we charge is what we’re charged ourselves, based on weight. After the shipment passes US Customs, you must pay import tax (“tariffs”) to DHL, who will email you a payment link.” It adds: “So only order if you UNDERSTAND AND AGREE to pay THEM, (not us!) at least $33.21.”

Real bills vary. In an r/Microneedling buying-tips thread, a Los Angeles owner reports paying about $48 in import charges on a $350 order and $32 on a separate $125 order (owner account).

Why to order a year of cartridges with the device

Every US shipment carries the same overhead: $29.30 shipping + $17.00 DHL collection fee + $1.31 regulatory charge = $47.61, before any import tax on the goods. Buy the device alone and the cartridges later in the year, and you pay that overhead twice: $211.51 + $88.37 = $299.88, against $252.27 for one combined order. Thirteen cartridges is this site’s standard schedule: one full-face session every 4 weeks with a new cartridge each time.

There is a second reason, covered below. If OwnDoc ever stops taking your orders, the cartridges already in your drawer are the only ones you will have.

Where to buy it: only from OwnDoc

The Derminator 2 is sold only direct, through OwnDoc’s own store, owndoc.shop. The seller named in the store footer is Gromako Data & Services Ltd, trading as Vaughter Wellness, with a London address and its main seat in Olomouc, Czech Republic. The Derminator’s inventor, Frank de Groot, is a director of that company and writes OwnDoc’s site; “Sarah Vaughter”, the name on much of its material, is a persona, not a real person (more in the review).

OwnDoc says it doesn’t use affiliates. Its store menu reads: “Affiliate program: No, sorry. We don’t work with affiliates because they promote whatever pays the highest commission.” The OwnDoc pages we read name no resellers.

What OwnDoc’s terms say

OwnDoc’s terms are unusually blunt, and they govern every part of ordering. The parts that matter for a US buyer, quoted from its shipping page and terms (checked October 6, 2026):

  • Forwarders: “We cancel and refund orders that appear to use a mail forwarding service as the shipping address.”
  • Other third-party addresses: “we do not ship to mail forwarders, american military bases, hotels, student accomodation, holiday accomodation and other such 3rd parties” (terms, item 12; EU customers excepted).
  • Countries: “If a country is not in the list of supported destinations when you check out, we do not ship to that country and we do not make exceptions.”
  • Returns: “Returns for this product, even when unused, are never accepted to protect our customers” (product page). The shipping page carves out EU customers within their legal return period.
  • Commercial use: “Since October 22, 2023, commercial use of the Derminator® is prohibited by our T&C for new customers (except for EU customers).”
  • Cartridges: the cartridge page says OwnDoc’s cartridge “is the only cartridge that works properly with the Derminator® 2”.

Can you ship a Derminator 2 to a forwarding address?

OwnDoc’s terms prohibit it. Its shipping page says it cancels and refunds orders that appear to use a forwarding address.

In practice, orders do get through. We, the team behind this site, have ordered a Derminator to a forwarding address without problems. The owner accounts we found are fewer than forum lore suggests: the clearest is an older post on Acne.org’s microneedling forum, in which an owner says they bought through a UK forwarding company and later asked for help replenishing needles. It may concern an earlier model.

The risk is not only a cancelled order and a refund. A buyer OwnDoc decides has broken its terms may be refused future orders, and the Derminator 2 runs only on OwnDoc’s cartridges. One order getting through says little about whether the next one will. If you rely on the device, a direct address in a country OwnDoc serves is the lower-risk route.

Does a VPN or a prepaid card keep the order private?

A VPN does not hide who you are from a seller that ships to your name and address. It changes the IP address the store sees. The order still carries your name, your delivery address and a payment that has to clear.

For payment, our guide to ordering a microneedling device privately covers what each method shows a store, including virtual card numbers and prepaid cards. On OwnDoc specifically, owners report that payment and delivery details need to match. In Derminator issues a commenter says so, and in Derminator purchase… any tips? owners discuss matching payment and address details and not changing an order after checkout (owner accounts). The same thread has an owner reporting about ten orders over five years without trouble.

Buyers ask for this kind of advice often, as the title of one thread shows:

That thread is titled “I’m ready to buy the derminator 2, advice please what to …”; we can read only titles and snippets, not the replies.

How to avoid a dispute with OwnDoc

DO NOT CONTACT THE COMPANY UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY.

One-star customer reviews on Trustpilot and PissedConsumer describe people being refused a sale after asking a question before they had ordered; one PissedConsumer customer from August 2025 says this happened after asking for help with ordering (customer allegations). OwnDoc says the same thing from its side. Replying to a one-star Trustpilot review on August 15, 2024, it wrote: “As always, this is a 1-star review for refusing to ship to a particular location or accepting a customer.” And once it decides to stop dealing with someone, “No contact means in this case refusing further orders from her” (reply of August 8, 2026). The answers to most pre-order questions are on OwnDoc’s shipping page and terms, quoted above. Read those instead of emailing.

The one detailed account we found of an owner being blocked from reordering began with a dispute over a delivery cost, so the rest of the advice here is about getting the parcel delivered, and paid for, the first time.

Pick it up. If a parcel returns undelivered and OwnDoc judges you to blame, the shipping page says “we will then only accept further orders when the customer refunds us for the lost cost of shipping and any Customs re-import fees, which are very substantial in case of the package returning from outside the EU.” The terms put that at “often approx. $50”. They name the cases where you’d be blamed, such as not following “the tracking links and our emailed and SMSed warnings” or going “on a long holiday”, and where you wouldn’t, such as a correct address the post office marked “Insufficient address”.

There is a contradiction in the terms. Item 3 says you can refuse a parcel to cancel an order, “which is free of charge”, while item 4 says a parcel returning from outside the EU costs OwnDoc about $50 that a buyer at fault must repay before ordering again. The terms don’t say which applies to a deliberate refusal.

Pay DHL promptly. DHL emails a payment link for the import charges after the parcel clears US Customs. The terms don’t say how OwnDoc treats a parcel sent back because those charges went unpaid; given the checkout’s “only order if you UNDERSTAND AND AGREE” warning, assume it would count against you.

Allow time. “Always count on at least two weeks. Three weeks is a good rule of thumb.” For the US in particular, the shipping page says transit “sometimes has enormously long (up to three months) transit breakdown delays in the cold months of the year”. Reorder cartridges well before you run out, especially in winter.

Be careful with disputes. In the “Derminator issues” thread, the user Growing-upp says they were blocked from reordering cartridges after a disagreement over a delivery cost, and that an order placed through their husband didn’t get around the block (owner account). OwnDoc’s own replies to reviews go further: “We always punish criminal defamation (lying to cause harm) with doxxing” (Trustpilot, August 15, 2024). Our Derminator 2 review quotes the rest, with sources.

Should you buy it?

On our scores, yes, with care. The Derminator 2 shares the top score among devices sold for home use that we’ve reviewed, 5.0 out of 10, level with the Dr. Pen A10, and we’d recommend it, but with real caution around ordering. Patricia, who runs this site, found it gentler on her skin than the Dr. Pen pens she has used and far less convenient: “the technology wins on treatment feel, but the convenience loses.” The full scoring, the device’s FDA status and its seller-conduct record are in the Derminator 2 review.
